I'm thinking about buying Canon PowerShot S3 IS. It's not DSLR but I can't afford one, and this one costs EUR 380 which I might accept if the camera is good.

6.0 megapixels
Sensor: 1/2.5" CCD
Optical Zoom: 12X Image Stabilized
Focus: TTL
Sensitivity: AUTO, High ISO Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800
Focal length: 36 - 432 mm
Shutter speed: 15 - 1/3,200 sec
Live histogram in record mode

Has some interesting filters like Color accent and Color Swap

Basically the things I don't like is that it can't shoot RAW photos and that ISO 400 and 800 are pretty much unusable.

If I understood correctly I can attach custom lenses to it (I won't, but at least I know I can). The macro test turned out beautifuly, it's a zillion times better than what my current camera would produce.

If I use this camera in a museum where flashlight is forbidden, do I have to stand "very very still" to take an image right? Because then I won't buy it.

So what do you think, should I buy this camera?

hi there,

I am using Canon PowerShot S5 IS which is 8Mpixels, I am pretty satisfied with its performance. Well as you know it cannot shoot raw, but with AV adjustment you can get quite close to it.

if your main concern is standing very still taking pictures in a museum, that would actually be determine by the lights available there. you are able to change the ISO, and the AV therefore that would actually help.

I have use canon for about a year i have taken shots in quite dark areas. the quality of pictures that came out of it was actually good.

i hope this help you
